What makes a bewildering puzzle?
An original concept
Bewildering puzzles are inspired by illusions and science experiments and brain research, and antiques and escape rooms and nature and sci-fi and video games and Leonardo Da Vinci, and clouds, and articles in the newspaper — pretty much anywhere, really. They prioritise a good aha moment, and will never be just another rehash of puzzles you’ve seen a thousand times before.
A quirky narrative
A bewildering puzzle isn’t just about solving things. It’s about embarking on a journey through a mysterious landscape to complete a mission that may or may not be critical to life as we know it. The narrative turns readers into heroes, and makes every solve feel like an incredible achievement.
Rigorous testing and puzzle perfecting
There’s nothing more annoying than a puzzle that requires an unreasonable leap in logic…
Bewildering puzzles have been put through the wringer to ensure they’re fair, can be completed without outside knowledge and are carefully executed so that the pictures are identifiable and all the lines meet up where they’re supposed to.
A striking aesthetic
Bewildering puzzles use a striking, minimalist art style to create a puzzling experience that is as good to look at as it is to play. Its not just about pretty pictures - the art has to work with the form to transform pages into rooms, or portals, or steps on a bridge. It’s all done by humans - no AI here.
